About Me
Hello! I’m Yarrow Ling-Hope, MA, MHP, LMHC
My pronouns are She/Her/Hers.
Some of my personal identities include being second-generation Asian-American (Biracial - Taiwanese/White), Queer, and Neurodivergent.
I know what it's like to be stuck between identities. It can feel isolating being tugged in sometimes opposite directions. Finding community, fighting assimilation, Family of Origin (FOO) and Culture of Origin (COO) expectations, being ‘resilient’ while facing microaggressions and systemic racism. I struggled for many years with racial imposter syndrome, not quite fitting in, not quite having a safe space to land and be myself. Settling into my identities and finding peace with them was not a linear journey. Like many folx belonging to marginalized communities it was difficult to find a therapist that had a nuanced understanding of my struggles, didn’t cause excessive harm, or was willing to own up to that harm. Because of my personal identities and my own lived experiences, I knew that I wanted to provide culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed mental health treatment, and to specialize in identity related issues. I want to provide a safe container* where you can explore who you are, and feel comfortable calling me in if I take a misstep.
I have a Masters of the Arts Degree (MA) in Psychology, with an emphasis in Counseling, from LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LHMC) LH61241556, and a Mental Health Professional (MHP) in Washington State. I have worked in the mental health field since 2010, and have been a mental health therapist since 2014. I worked in community mental health in Skagit and Whatcom County for over 7 years, and then transitioned to working with clients in the long-term care system for almost 5 years, before opening this private practice.
Taking the first step to find a therapist can be intimidating. Every therapist has a different style and vibe, and it can be hard to decide who is the best fit. Because of that, I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation as a low risk way to connect with me, before moving forward with treatment. Feel free to click the button below, email, or call, to set up a time for us to chat.
*Note: I used the phrase “safe container” as it is often used in these spaces, but I want to clarify what I mean. I do not believe there is such a thing as a “safe container,” it is impossible for me to ensure you stay 100% safe. I also acknowledge that “brave spaces” are equally problematic, and put undue burden on marginalized folx. I want to provide an “accountable space.”
I strive to be intentional regarding how, what, and when I communicate; and am committed to taking responsibility for my intentions, words, and actions. While I try to align my intentions with my impact, I also acknowledge that I am will make mistakes or miscommunicate and that will cause harm. My goal is to work with my clients to cultivate a therapeutic relationship that creates an “accountable space” were we are both responsible for working together to create boundaries or guidelines, as well as communicate wants and needs. Sometimes that’s messy, and can definitely feel uncomfortable.
